Les Chants de Maldoror

A Director Work of Andrew Chan

Y, an accountant, accepts the invitation of his boss Simon to become a tutor for Simon’s son Hong. However, from the moment he steps into Simon’s house, Y embarks on a truly bizarre journey. Y discovers that Hong is a hermaphrodite, Simon’s wife Catalina is possessed by a black cat due to an immortal curse, and Simon is a lunatic obsessed with making dolls. What’s more, Y becomes a believer of a deviant religious organisation and performs a head-cutting ceremony for a cultured person…

Chan uses Les Chants de Maldoror, Cecilia and The Blood of a Poet as a starting point to explore the boundaries of human nature.

Dung Kai-cheung (Writer, author of Cecilia)

Did the director peek into my dream? Or did I accidentally enter his dream? It’s really like a dream in a dream!

The cast is as energetic, creative and intellectually reflective as ever.
