Mr. CHAN Hang-fai Andrew
Artistic Director
Andrew CHAN, Artistic Director of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in directing, and received the Outstanding Director Award from the academy for his graduation project Woyzeck. His works include Seven Boxes Possessed of Kafka, Fear & Misery of the Third Reich, Endgame, Hamletmachine, The Hong Kong Three Sisters, A Dream Play, The Tempest, The Visit, Les Chants de Maldoror and The Cherry Orchard Experimentation. He has been invited to perform in mainland China, Taiwan and overseas numerous times.
In 2009, CHAN received Best Director (Tragedy/Drama) at the 18th Hong Kong Drama Awards (HKDA) and Best Director at the 1st Hong Kong Theatre Libre (HKTL) for Seven Boxes Possessed of Kafka; in 2013, he received Best Director at the 5th HKTL for Endgame; in 2018, he was nominated for Best Director (Tragedy/Drama) at the 27th HKDAs for The Hong Kong Three Sisters; in 2023, he received Best Director (Comedy/Farce) at the 31st HKDAs and was nominated for Best Director at the 14th HKTL and Director of the Year at 2022 IATC(HK) Critics Awards for The Visit. Moreover, the 2017 Taipei performance of The Hong Kong Three Sisters also received 2017 Taipei Fringe Festival “Thumbs Up” Fringe Award.
CHAN has participated in several art festivals, including Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Kuan Du Arts Festival, Cross-Strait Fringe Theatre Art Festival, Wuzhen Theatre Festival and YPAM Fringe, and has collaborated with artists from different regions. In addition, he has been actively developing international exchange programmes, including events for Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre ShakespeareOn//line Project, InlanDimensions International Arts Festival and Tokyo Crossing Performing Arts Festival. In 2020-2021, he was invited by the Japan Directors Association to host the “International Theatre Exchange Hong Kong Special” online workshop twice, sharing the directing methods of devising theatre with Japanese stage directors, playwrights and performers.
CHAN created, directed and produced 19 theatre-in-education (TIE) programmes which successfully carry forward Bertolt Brecht’s concept on educational drama between 2002 and 2024. As early as 2001, he had begun writing and publishing drama-related books, and co-authored more than 20 works with CHAN Shui-yu, ATL’s Administrative Director. Currently an examiner (Arts Criticism, Arts Education, Drama) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC).

Ms. CHAN Shui-yu
Administrative Director
CHAN Shui-yu, Administrative Director of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a Professional Diploma in Acting, and was awarded Outstanding Actor twice by the academy. In 2007, she received a Master Degree in Drama in Education from the University of Central England in Birmingham. The projects Shui-yu plans include theatrical performances, theatre-in-education programmes and projects of cross-regional co-creations. She has published more than 20 books on drama education or theatre arts. In 2009, Shui-yu received Best Actress at the 1st Hong Kong Theatre Libre for Seven Boxes Possessed of Kafka; in 2023, she received Best Actress (Comedy/Farce) at the 31st Hong Kong Drama Awards for The Visit.
Shui-yu established Alice Theatre Laboratory in 2003 (formerly Alice Education Studio, established in 1998). Besides focusing on theatrical performances, she also designs, writes, runs and teaches pioneering drama classes for Hong Kong pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, while serving as an instructor of train-the-trainers workshops for school teachers or theatre practitioners and a supervisor of drama classes. She was a consultant for the Arts Education Section of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) and an adjudicator of the Awards for Arts Education (Non-School Division), the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. She co-authored more than 20 works with Andrew CHAN, ATL’s Artistic Director. In addition, she translated several plays, including Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck, Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, Breath, Act Without Words I and Act Without Words II, and Harold Pinter’s Mountain Language.
Currently an examiner (Arts Education, Arts Administration, Drama) at HKADC.

Ms. LEE Chun-ying Jenny
Education Officer
Jenny LEE, Education Officer of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative and Professional Writing. She contributed her literary works to Tai Tau Choi Literature Monthly Magazine, Zihua and HKBU Library’s Short Story Dispenser.
Jenny has participated in the following ATL productions: Three Mysteries, The Cherry Orchard Experimentation, Les Chants de Maldoror, The Life of Antonin Artaud, The Visit, The Tempest, A Dream Play and Fear & Misery of the Third Reich.

Mr. LAU Kin-kwan Johnny
Publicity Officer
Johnny LAU, Publicity Officer * of Alice Theatre Laboratory, respectively graduated from the School of Film & Television of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Screenwriting, BFA) and the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University (Cinema Studies, MA). He is a freelance filmmaker and film critic. He participated in Journey to the Fest: Student Visit to the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (a programme organised by Asian Film Awards Academy in 2018) and the International Filmmaking Academy Workshop (mentored by Jane Campion). His short film An Endless End received the Merit Award of the Audio-Visual Production – Drama Category in the 7th Chang Kuo-sin Award for Aspiring Young Communicators. A Killer in a Wheelchair, one of his graduation projects, received Outstanding Artistic Contribution (Scriptwriting | Editing | Performance) in the 4th Ground Up Student Film Festival.
Johnny has participated in 3 ATL productions: Three Mysteries, The Cherry Orchard Experimentation and Les Chants de Maldoror.

Mr. LAW Hon-lam Hans
Administrative Officer
Hans LAW, Administrative Director of Alice Theatre Laboratory, graduated from the Academy of Film, Hong Kong Baptist University. Also as a filmmaker, his directed several short films, which include Cage, None and Invisible (literal translation).

Mr. TSE Man-chun Cyrus
Programme Organiser
Cyrus TSE, Programme Organiser of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) with a BEng Degree in Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering. As a freelancer, Cyrus is involved in various fields of arts and culture, including theatre, music, dance, film, tea culture, and yoga.
Cyrus has participated in several ATL stage productions, including recent works such as Three Mysteries, The Cherry Orchard Experimentation, Les Chants de Maldoror, The Life of Antonin Artaud and The Visit.

Mr. KAN Lap-keung Roy
Senior Actor-Teacher
Roy KAN, Senior Actor-Teacher of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the School of Drama, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in acting, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree in Drama. He has performed in stage plays by various Hong Kong theatre troupes, including ATL’s The Visit, The Life of Antonin Artaud, Les Chants de Maldoror and The Cherry Orchard Experimentation. He was nominated for Outstanding Actor at the 14th Hong Kong Theatre Libre for The Visit. In addition to theatrical performances, he serves as a drama teacher for drama education courses and drama clubs in local primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions, and participates in school tours of various theatre troupes and several theatre-in-education programmes produced by ATL.

Ms. LAI Hiu-shan Louie
Senior Actor-Teacher
Louie LAI, Senior Actor-Teacher of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the School of Drama, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in acting, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree in Drama. She was a full-time actress for Chung Ying Theatre Company from 2010 to 2012. She recently performed in ATL’s The Visit, The Life of Antonin Artaud, Les Chants de Maldoror and The Cherry Orchard Experimentation. In 2008, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 17th Hong Kong Drama Awards for Drama Gallery’s Jack & Jackie; in 2023, she was nominated for Outstanding Actress at the 14th Hong Kong Theatre Libre for ATL’s The Visit. She served as an adjudicator at the Hong Kong School Drama Festival and a drama teacher. She has also participated in the production and performance of several theatre-in-education programmes produced by ATL.

Ms. YUEN Wai-ying Grace
Senior Actor-Teacher
Grace YUEN, Senior Actor-Teacher of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), graduated from the School of Drama, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in acting, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (First-class Honours) Degree in Drama. She received several scholarships during her studies. In 2007, she was selected to participate in the International Youth Exchange Programme (IYEP) jointly organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth. She joined students from various tertiary institutions on cultural exchanges with Singapore. She also represented the HKAPA in performing at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She was awarded Outstanding Actor thrice by the academy for Execution in Autumn, The Threepenny Opera and Tartuffe.
After graduation, Grace became a freelance stage actor and participated in over 70 professional stage productions, including overseas exchange performances and more than 1,500 school tours. The troupes she has collaborated with include ATL, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKREP), Class 7A Drama Group, Theatre Ronin, Cinematic Theatre, Actors’ Family, We Draman Group, Perry Chiu Experimental Theatre, Bravo Theatre, Prospects Theatre, the Whole Theatre, K.O. The Box, Piece by Piece, the Theatre Wonderland and E-Side Dance Company.
Grace is also active in leading students of different age groups in drama activities, including St. James’ Settlement’s children’s drama activities; training and performances for tertiary institutions’ drama clubs; and adult drama performance courses. In 2016, she was first introduced to ATL’s theatre-in-education programmes, participating as an actor-teacher in the productions Filial Piety Moves Heaven (literal translation) and A Theatrical Take on Journey to the West (l. t.).
In recent years, Grace has actively participated in various positions such as creation, playwriting and directing. The works include Site Specific Dance – QuanQuan II (Creator & Performer; Hong Kong People’s Fringe Festival 2012, Stockholm Fringe Festival 2018), Bravo Theatre’s All in the Timing: Night (Playwright), the Whole Theatre’s Cabaret 2011 & 2012 (Creator & Performer), Class 7A Drama Group’s The Memorandum (Assistant Director) and Text Re-experimenting III, IV, VI (Playwright & Director), and Rick CHEUNG’s All Is Calm (Creator & Performer). Currently, she is a member of the Class 7A Drama Group Salon.
Grace was nominated for Outstanding Actress at the 2nd, 14th and 15th Hong Kong Theatre Libre (HKTL) for Prospects Theatre’s True Man Show in Showroom, Rick Cheung’s All Is Calm and ATL’s The Visit respectively. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Tragedy/Drama) at the 22nd Hong Kong Drama Awards (HKDA) for We Draman Group’s Doubt. In 2023, she received Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Farce) at the 23rd HKDAs for ATL’s The Visit.

Mr. LI Hon-tin Karson
Actor-Teacher
Karson Li, Actor-Teacher of Alice Theatre Laboratory (ATL), participates in the production and performance of theatre-in-education programmes The Hole in the Heart (literal translation) and The Key to the Heart (l. t.). In 2022, he graduated from the School of Drama, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in acting, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree in Drama. In 2017, he graduated from University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) with a BSc(Hons) Digital Media. In 2016, he graduated from Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) with a Higher Diploma in Audio-Visual Entertainment Technology.
